This is a recipe that came from my aunt. We always make these at Christmas. They are the best ever!!! Great for Christmas gift boxes!!
Old Fashioned Caramels
1 c. brown sugar 1/2 lb. butter
1 c. white sugar 1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. light Karo
Stirring constantly, cook all the above in a heavy pan on medium heat. Bring to a rolling boil. Slowly add 1 can of Eagle Brand milk. Cook, stirring constantly, to soft ball stage (240 degrees). Add 2 tsp. vanilla and 1 c. black walnuts (if desired). Pour into a 9x13 pan. When cool, cut into squares and cut wax paper into squares and wrap each piece individually, twisting the ends of the wax paper.
