A great way to make iced tea. I have made my iced tea like this for the past 36 years, it is delicious!

Iced Tea

3 family sized Lipton tea bags
5 whole cloves

Place tea bags and cloves in a container , pour 1 qt. boiling water over them.

1 1/2 cups sugar

Squeeze tea bags and then put sugar into a 1 gallon pitcher and then pour hot tea mixture over the sugar. Stir well and then add cold water to fill container. Stir again and chill. (leave the whole cloves in the pitcher as the flavor just gets better over time). Pour over ice in a nice tall glass and enjoy!

An easy to make cake with common (in the kitchen) ingredients. Great snack time cake! This is my husbands favorite cake!

Lazy Daisy Cake

2 well beaten eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup boiled milk
1 tablespoon butter

To well beaten eggs, add sugar slowly,(using your mixer). Then add flour, baking powder and vanilla and beat for 2 minutes. Add boiled milk into which the butter has been melted. Mix and pour into a 8 X 8 inch greased square glass baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Remove from oven and poke holes all over the top of the cake with a toothpick.

5 tablespoons brown sugar
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons milk

Bring the above ingredients to a boil. Pour topping over the cake as soon as it is taken from the oven. Let cool and enjoy!


A great way to make your eggs at Christmas or any other time. My mom always kept these in a big jar in the refrigerator. They make a yummy snack or a wonderful addition to the dinner table. They are great at Easter also!

Pickled Eggs

1 cup sugar
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 cup water
3 Tablespoons red food coloring 1 teaspoon salt

Heat all the above ingredients on the stove in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil.
Pour over 1 dozen hard boiled (peeled) eggs. (I use a gallon glass jar, you can do more eggs if you have a big enough container to hold them).
Open one jar of red beets (or a can if you use store type) and pour off juice into the container and then lay the beets on top of the eggs to hold them down under the juice. Let set in refrigerator 24 hrs.
When serving I slice the eggs in half and put on a egg platter. And then dish the beets into a separate dish.

A great cake to serve with coffee or tea. Quick to make! Yummy!

Crumb Cake

2 c. brown sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
Mix in mixer all above ingredients. Take out 1 cup of crumbs and set aside. To whats left in mixer add:
1 egg
1 c. sour milk (1 tbsp. lemon juice, add milk to fill to 1 cup measure).
1 tsp. baking soda
Mix well and pour into a greased and lightly floured 9x13 glass baking dish. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

A very good (all in one pot) meal! You can put it in the oven and forget about it. Tender and delicious! It can be frozen or thawed, makes no difference. I have good luck both ways. Just depends if I'm in a hurry.

All Day Pot Roast

3 lb. boneless chuck roast (any size depending on amount you need)
1 lb carrots (peeled and cut up) (amount can vary)
2 lb potatoes (peeled and quartered) (amount can vary)
salt and pepper and onion powder

Place roast in big roasting pan (one that has a lid).
Salt, pepper and sprinkle with onion powder. Run water into the pan and fill till it just comes over the top of the roast. Put the lid on. Place in oven and bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 9 hours.
About 1 and 1/2 hours before finishing, add the peeled potatoes and carrots. Salt and pepper them. Return to oven, and finish baking with the lid on.

When finished, turn oven off and dish potatoes and carrots into a serving dish and cover, place in the oven. Place the roast onto a platter and cover with foil and also place in warm oven. Put the roasting pan on a burner on the stove and add 2 cups water to the left over broth and bring to a boil. Mix in a small bowl 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup milk, whisk until smooth, add to broth. Bring this to a boil and then turn down and simmer until thick. This will serve as a gravy for over the potatoes and carrots. You can ladle this into a gravy boat.

Take everything out of the oven and serve.


Here is another recipe of my Moms. She always used squash instead of pumpkin. My dad grew these great big white crook necked squash, that were for baking pies. My dad would etch in my kid's names when the squash was tiny and then as it grew so would there names! We would cut the squash up and cook it and then freeze it up in containers for pies. Pumpkin works fine, instead of the squash.

Grandmas Pumpkin Pie

1 cup pumpkin
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 can carnation milk (or half & half) and enough regular milk to fill up to 2 cups.
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all in a mixer. Pour into unbaked pie shells and bake for 35 to 40 minutes at 400 degrees.
To test if its finished baking slide a table knife into the center and if it comes out clean it is done.

Makes 2 (9 inch) pies.


This is my Moms pie crust recipe that was handed down to her from her mother and she got it from hers! I have used it for the past 36 years and it is my favorite!

Grandmas Pie Crust

3 cups flour
1 cup Crisco
scant tsp. salt
2/3 cup ice water

I use my Kitchen-aid mixer with the flat paddle (but any mixer will do). Mix shortening and salt into flour until it crumbles into the size of a pea, then add the ice water. Let mix until dough clings to beater and pulls away from sides of mixer bowl. Flour a surface and roll out your pie crust. Place into pie pan and fill with desired filling and place rolled dough over top. Go around the edge with a table knife and trim excess off. Crimp edges.
If making a crust that needs to be baked before filling, bake at 400 degrees for the first 5 minutes and then 10 minutes at 350 degrees
This will make 5 pie shells or 2 covered pies and 1 shell.

This has great flavor and is a great dish for company and family!

Chicken Breasts Supreme

3 skinless chicken breasts, (halved)
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. pepper
3 tablespoons butter

Mix the paprika and salt and pepper together in a small bowl.
Season the chicken with the salt, pepper and paprika mixture. In a large skillet melt the butter and brown the chicken. Place the chicken into a 9 x 13 glass baking dish.

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms (drained)
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons minced onion
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2/3 cup sour cream

In a saucepan combine everything above except the sour cream. Cook on low until the cheese melts. Remove from the heat and stir in the sour cream, blending well. Pour over the chicken and cover tightly with foil.
Bake in a 350 degrees oven for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake 30 more minutes, basting occasionally with the sauce.
Serve with rice, using the sauce as a gravy.
Serves 4 to 6.


Here is a cookie that the kids and adults love!


2 c. shortening
3 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
5 1/2 c. flour
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
4 Tbsp. sugar
4 tsp. cinnamon

Cream together with a mixer, the shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Sift together (in a separate bowl) the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture. Shape dough into balls and roll in the 4 Tbsp. sugar and 4 tsp. cinnamon (mixed together). Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

This is a fast and easy dinner. It has great flavor, and is very filling. Great family or company dinner!

Supreme Tuna Casserole

1 (8 oz.) pkg egg noodles
1 cup frozen peas
2 Tablespoons butter
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 (7.06oz.) pkg tuna in water
1 (7 oz.) can sliced mushrooms (drained)
3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3 cups milk
1 cup French's original french fried onions

Fill a saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Add peas and noodles and cook for 8 minutes. Drain and place into a 9 x 13 inch glass baking dish. Stir in the 2 Tablespoons of butter while the noodles are still hot. Add the cream of chicken soup, tuna, mushrooms, 2 cups cheddar cheese and the milk, stir. Put the other cup of cheese over the top and sprinkle the French's onions and salt and pepper to taste.
Place in a 350 degrees oven and bake for 45 minutes.

This really tastes good, and is fast and simple to make!

Quick Alfredo Sauce

1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese
3/4 c. Parmesan cheese
1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. milk

Warm over low heat until smooth, stirring constantly. Stir into 8 ounce's cooked fettuccine. Toss lightly and serve.


Here is a yummy salad! Great for company or family.

Corn Chip Salad

1 head lettuce
6 to 8 hard-boiled eggs (diced)
1 lb. bacon, fried and crumbled
1/2 to 3/4 lb. Colby or cheddar cheese, grated
4 to 6 c. corn chips, crushed (Frito corn chips)

1 c. Miracle Whip
1/8 c. vinegar
1/4 c. milk
1/4 c. white sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar

Toss lettuce, eggs, bacon and cheese. Add chips and dressing just before serving.


I thought I would add a recipe that my family loves. It's easy, fast and made all in one pan!

One Pan Stroganoff

1 lb hamburger 1/2 c. mushrooms
1/2 c. onion 4 to 6 oz. noodles, uncooked
1/2 tsp. garlic powder 3 to 3 1/2 c. water
1 tsp. salt 2 T. parsley flakes
1/2 tsp. pepper 1 c. sour cream
2 beef bouillon cubes 1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 T. lemon juice

Brown the hamburger and onion in a large skillet. Stir in the remaining ingredients, except parsley and sour cream and soup. Simmer 20 minutes or until noodles are soft and liquid is mostly absorbed. Stir in parsley, sour cream, and mushroom soup. Heat but don't boil.

This recipe can be used as cupcakes or a 9 x 13 cake. Either way its delicious!

Black Bottom Cupcakes

1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup cocoa (Hershey's)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 cup water
1/2 cup oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix the above ingredients together in mixer. Place in either a greased and lightly floured 9 x 13 glass baking pan or fill lined cupcake pans 1/2 full with batter.

1 8 oz. package cream cheese
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Mix in mixer the first four ingredients and then fold in the chocolate chips. If making the cake, drop by tablespoons full of mixture, 3 across and 5 down over the top of the batter. If making cupcakes put 1 tablespoon of mixture in each cup.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes for cupcakes. Makes 18 to 20 cupcakes.
For 9 x 13 cake bake 30 minutes.


My mom made her spaghetti this way and I kept the tradition up. We love this recipe.

Grandmas Baked Spaghetti

1 lb. spaghetti, cooked and drained (as per directions on the box)

1 lb. hamburger
1/2 cup chopped onion
Brown hamburger and onion in a large skillet. Add to the meat mixture the following:

1 qt. tomato juice (I use my home canned, but from the grocery is fine)
1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1/2 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. white sugar
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. Italian seasonings
1/2 tsp.salt
Simmer all this together for about 10 minutes.

Place the cooked spaghetti into a 9 X 13 glass baking pan and then ladle the sauce over the spaghetti, stir it in. Drizzle the top in a back and forth motion with ketchup and then sprinkle with pepper.

Place in the oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Serve with Parmesan cheese for those who wish to use it.

Great with spaghetti or lasagna. Very quick and easy, and yummy!

Herb Garlic Bread Sticks

2 1/2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt

Mix in a bowl and set aside.

1/4 oz. package active dry yeast
1 cup milk

Heat the milk to lukewarm and remove from heat and then sprinkle the yeast into the milk, stirring constantly until dissolved. Stir into flour mixture. I use my kitchen aide mixer for this using the dough hook. Letting it knead for a couple minutes.
Place on a floured surface and roll out to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 1 inch wide strips.

1 stick butter

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
Place 1/2 stick in a 9 x 13 glass baking dish, repeat this step one more time so that you have two baking dishes ready. I melt the butter in the baking dish in the oven.

Place strips of dough into the melted butter in the 9 x 13, flip over so each strip is buttered on both sides. You may have to cut the strips in half to fit into baking dish. Place the strips real close together. Set aside and cover dishes with a towel and let raise for about 30 to 60 minutes.

Sprinkle the tops with oregano, garlic, and dill.

Place in oven and bake for 10 to 14 minutes. When you take these out they will pull apart with a fork. Serve warm. YUM!


A recipe that is out of this world. It is delicious!!! My kids loved this when they were all at home!!

Ham Loaf

1/2 lb. ham (chopped in a food processor, or you can have them do this at the deli)
3/4 to 1 lb. ground beef
1/4 lb. ground sausage
3/4 c. bread crumbs
1/2 c. milk
1 egg

Mix in a large bowl and place into a 9 x 13 glass pan and shape into a loaf.

1 c. light brown sugar
1/4 c. vinegar
1 Tablespoon dry mustard

Put into a sauce pan and boil 1 minute and then pour over the loaf in the 9 x 13 pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes. Sometimes I double the glaze recipe as my family likes to spoon it over their portion.

This is the best oatmeal cookies ever!!!

Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Mix in mixer :
2 cups light brown sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs

1 1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups quick oats

Drop by teaspoons into bowl of powdered sugar. Roll till covered with sugar. Place on cookie sheet. Press slightly with the palm of your hand. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Don't over bake. Makes about 3 dozen.

Here is a great old standby for those chilly days!!!!

Chili Soup

2 cans dark red kidney beans
1 can water
1 quart of tomato juice (I use my home canned, from the store works fine)
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
1 lb hamburger
1 small onion
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp brown sugar
1 tsp white sugar
1 tsp chili powder

Brown hamburger, onion and salt in a large saucepan. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil and then turn down to a simmer and let cook for another 30 minutes or longer (it doesn't hurt to simmer a long time as it only makes it better). Sometimes my family likes me to stir in about 2 Tablespoons of dry barley and cook with the other ingredients.

We sometimes serve this with a little cheese or sour cream on the top. YUM!!!

This is a favorite for my hubby! It was his mom's recipe.

Wilted Greens Salad

4 slices bacon (cut up)
1/4 c. vinegar
2 tablespoon water
1 qt. shredded greens (I use spinach and bibb lettuce)
2 green onions chopped
dash of pepper
1 hard cooked egg (chopped)

Fry bacon until crisp. Add vinegar and water into frying pan, heat.

Combine greens, onions and seasoning's.

Pour hot mixture over greens and toss until wilted. Sprinkle egg over the top and serve.
